75. Emmy Ödülleri‘nde Sir Elton John, EGOT statüsüne resmen ulaşarak, bu listeyi başaran az sayıda kişilerden biri oldu. Ünlü müzisyen, büyük hayran kitlesi önünde veda konseri filmi “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium” ile Outstanding Live Variety Special ödülü aldı. John, anılarla dolu bu yolculukta her kategoride birden fazla adaylık kazanmış olmasına rağmen, Emmy kategorisinde daha önce hiçbir adaylık elde edememişti. Şarkıcı ve piyanist, daha önce Disney’in animasyon filmi “The Lion King” ve kendi hayatını konu alan biyografik film “Rocketman” için müzik katkılarıyla En İyi Şarkı Oscar Ödülü’nü kazandı. En popüler şarkıları yazmanın yanı sıra başarılı film müzikleri bestelemesiyle de tanınan John, aynı zamanda Broadway’in en büyük gişe rekorları kıran yapımlarının arkasındaki çalışmalarıyla ünlü. Besteci, “The Lion King” ve “Billy Elliot the Musical” için şarkılar yazdı ve “Aida” için En İyi Orijinal Müzik Tony Ödülü’nü de kazanmıştı.
